Small clusters of waxy petalled scarlet flowers, each resembling a flaring trumpet, appear in large numbers in mid- to late spring. The foliage offers year-round interest as it is retained throughout, and is a lustrous deep green. Unusually, the leaves are twisted, which gives them a sense of movement, and they have a pinted tip. A wonderful addition to a shrub border or woodland garden, but it is also compact enough to thrive in a large patio pot.
- Garden care: Avoid planting too deeply, and apply a generous mulch of leaf mould around the base of the plant each spring.
