Rhaphiolepis umbellata 'Ovata'
- Position: full sun
- Soil: moist but well-drained, moderately-fertile soil
- Rate of growth: slow-growing
- Flowering period: June
- Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)
Conical clusters of scented, star-shaped flowers are held at the tips of the stems in early summer, while the glossy evergreen foliage, provides structure and interest throughout the year. Ideally suited to a sheltered garden, it will thrive when planted against the base of a sunny, south-facing wall.
- Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole when planting. After flowering lightly prune any shoots that spoil the symmetry of the plant. In winter, offer protection in colder areas and cut back on watering.
