From the creeping, underground rhizomes, nodding, upright stems emerge each spring bearing long, pointed green leaves. A few weeks later the large, lantern-like, yellow flowers open, their twisted petals creating a beautiful effect. Thriving in partial to quite heavy shade, it is a wonderful plant for the woodland floor or for underplanting in an awkard spot in a dark border.
- Garden care:
Lift and divide large clumps in early spring. Protect the emerging stems from slugs and snails.
