  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, humus-rich, well drained
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: March
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

  • Garden care: A really pretty, herbaceous peony, with bright red, single, cup-shaped flowers in spring, set in a ruff of finely cut, ferny leaves. This is earlier flowering and more compact than most peonies, but even after the flowers have faded, the foliage looks delightful, so plant it near the front of a sunny border, where the delicate leaves can be appreciated.

  • Garden care: In early spring apply a top-dressing of a balanced slow release fertiliser around the base of the plant and mulch well with well rotted garden compost or manure.
