An unusual, large arum lily, with huge, arrow-shaped, glossy, dark green leaves. In early summer, dramatic white spathes (flowers), up to 20cm (8") across splashed with bright green and edged with a frill, rise above the foliage. This plant particularly loves moist shade and rich soil, making a striking architectural statement at the edge of a pond or a boggy bank. Its feet can be suberged in water, and it can be left outside in most frost-prone areas if it is given a deep winter mulch.
- Garden care: Grow in moist soil or as a marginal plant in a basket with heavy loam soil in water 30cm (12in) deep. Mulch plants with manure or garden compost in winter.
