• Other features: finely divided, hairy, light green leaves; all parts of the plant may cause a mild stomach upset if ingested; contact with the sap may cause skin irritation

  Deep to pale purple goblet-shaped blooms, which appear from March to May, are followed by clouds of billowing seedheads. Pasque flowers are often found growing on ancient earthworks or at the edges of Roman roads and are often one of the first signs of spring. They're perfect for a sunny rock garden or alpine bed.
  
  
• Garden care: Plant very firmly in well-drained soil and take care when carrying out routine border maintenance since Pasque flowers resent having their roots disturbed.
