  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to September
  • Flower colour: white fading to shades of pink
  • Other Features: contact with the foliage may cause skin irritation
  • Hardiness: half hardy annual

Often grown as a perennial in warmer climates, in the UK it should be treated as an annual to add oomph to your summer bedding display. The small flowers appear in early summer a creamy white and gradually fade to pink and darken as they mature to a deeper rose. As you will usually have young and old flowers on the plant at the same time it creates a glorious, multi-coloured effect.

  • Garden care: Keep the soil or compost moist by watering regularly during dry spells and feed with a balanced fertiliser every fourteen days. Although usually grown as an annual, plants that are protected with a dry mulch may survive mild winters where temperatures only occasionally fall below -5°C (23°F)
