  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to October
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Tall, bright and imposing, kniphofias lend height, vibrancy and drama to any garden. 'Nancy's Red' produces bold spikes of coral-red flowers from summer through to autumn and is a little shorter than many cultivars, so is more suitable for smaller gardens. For maximum impact, plant in bold clumps in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil, against a background of tall ornamental grasses, or as part of an exotic planting scheme. Good in containers, too. An easy and undemanding plant.

  • Garden care: In autumn remove and compost the faded, flower spikes and apply a deep, dry mulch around the crown of the plant. In spring, cut back any remaining foliage to ground level. Divide and re-plant overcrowded colonies in spring.
