Headily scented white flowers, which sometimes take on a pink blush as they mature, appear in large clusters on the upright stems from early summer, creating a shimmering contrast to the silver-grey foliage. A more enduring alternative to the annual stocks, these are generally treated as biennials or short-lived perennials. They perfect for a cottage garden border or Mediterranean-style planting scheme, they should be planted near a path, entranceway or patio so you can enjoy their perfume. The flowers will also last well after being cut.
- Garden care: Dead-heading may prolong the flowering season.
It is worth keeping in mind that these plants are mainly bi-ennial, so the plant may only live for two years.
