  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, reliably moist soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June and July
  • Flower colour: salmon-pink
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Stiff, upright stems, which are clothed in dark green, rough-textured leaves, are topped with clusters of pale pink flowers from early summer. Easy to grow where the soil is reliably moist but not waterlogged, their flowering period can be extended by regular deadheading.

  • Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost around the base of the plant in early-spring. Cut back the faded flowerheads in late autumn.
