An unusual sea holly, which (as the name suggests) closely resembles an agave. The sword-shaped leaves produce a basal rosette and are edged with soft spines. In late summer, upright branching stems carry greenish white flowerheads. This wonderful perennial is valued for its interesting silhouette and architectural foliage.
- Garden care: Lift and divide large colonies in spring. Avoid the temptation to cut back the flowerheads in autumn as they provide interest in the winter garden
