The flowers on this popularpink have a dark crimson eye surrounded by a frill of pure white petals with serrated edges. It will spread to form a mat of narrow, dark green leaves studded with flowers all summer. Old-fashioned by reputation, this is none the less a robust plant with
a long flowering period that will tolerate a wide range of conditions.
It is best planted towards the front of a perennial border, between cracks in paving, in a rock
garden, or in a pot. The flowers have a sweet scent and are good for cutting.
- Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted manure or garden compost
into the planting hole. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring and
deadhead to prolong flowering.
