- Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil (or John Innes no 3 compost for containers)

- Hardiness: half hardy (will need protection in winter)
Flaring petals, which have a midnight-blue stripe running through them, form open clusters of rich blue flowers on the upright stems in midsummer. Subsequently the attractive seed-heads will offer autumn interest.
- Garden care: Keep well-watered during the growing season, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month from spring until the plant flowers. Overwinter container-grown specimens in a cool greenhouse or conservatory, watering sparingly.
