  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil (or John Innes no 3 compost for containers)

    Recently introduced, this showy perennial puts on a marvelous show in midsummer when the umbels of rich purple buds open to reveal soft lilac coloured flowers, which have a darker streak running down the length of each petal.

  • Garden care: Keep well-watered during the growing season, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month from spring until the plant flowers. Overwinter container-grown specimens in a cool greenhouse or conservatory, watering sparingly.
