  • A fairly recent introduction by the renowned plantsman and designer Piet Oudolf, it has been hailed as a colour breakthrough for monkshoods. Its upright spires are densely packed with pale to silvery pink hooded flowers that have a dark throat. It tends to flower a little later than most other monkshoods and if you want loads of flowers then make sure it is planted in full sun. Try mixing it in with grasses for a wilder look, or plant it in a mixed border to add a bit of vertical interest.

  • Garden care: Prepare an extra deep planting hole at least
  • 45cm (18in) deep, adding well-rotted organic matter to prevent the soil from drying out in summer. Always wear gloves when working with monkshood since all parts of the plant are poisonous and a potential skin irritant.
