    An unusual sea holly, which (as the name suggests) closely resembles an agave. The sword-shaped leaves produce a basal rosette and are edged with soft spines.   • Garden care: Lift and divide large colonies in spring. Avoid the temptation to cut back the flowerheads in autumn as they provide interest in the winter garden.
