Bright scarlet, late spring and early summer flowers, may be followed by pendulous spikes of bead-like red fruits on this deciduous, twining climber. The slender crimson stems and dark green leaves, which sometimes have notched edges, are also attractive.
- Garden care: Tie in young shoots to their support as they grow. In early spring, thin out over-crowded stems by cutting selected pieces back to their base, and cut back side-shoots to within 3 or 4 buds of the main stem.
