Clematis (group 3)

• Position: full sun or partial shade
• Soil: fertile, well-drained, neutral soil
• Rate of growth: fast-growing
• Flowering period: July to October
• Flower colour: white with purple-pink veining
• Hardiness: frost hardy (may need protection in winter)
  
  Open bell-shaped, white flowers, each with purple-pink veining that becomes more pronounced around the outher edges, are seen from midsummer to late autumn. Ideal for covering a pergola or arch, it also does well in lareg pots or containers filled with John Innes No 2 compost as long as it is kept well fed and watered.
  
  
• Garden care: In early spring cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground-level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
