  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: March - April
  • Flower colour: green-flushed cream
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need protection in winter)

The early spring flowers have a prominent boss of stamens, which are surrounded by creamy-green petals, and they often appear in profusion, filling the air with their delicious citrus scent. The evergreen foliage is a dark green and finely cut creating a lacy effect throughout the year - and providing an excellent backdrop for the flowers. Diminuitive in habit, it can be used as a scrambler or low climber and it makes an excellent choice for a large pot. Needing a little protection in colder areas, it is ideally suited to a warm, south-facing wall.

  • Garden care: No routine pruning is necessary. If the spread of the plant needs to be restricted prune immediately after flowering, cutting back overlong shoots to healthy buds. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
