The arrow shaped, dark green leaves emerge in spring and are highlighted with small white spots. They are topped in mid summer by spectacular flowers. These are such a dark purple they almost look black in certain lights and have a very exotic shape. These plants are tuberous perennials originating from swamps and lake margins in southern and eastern Africa, so they like a reasonable amount of water, but are equally happy in pots on the patio.

  • Garden care: Keep really well watered during the warm weather, or grow as a marginal plant on the edges of a pond. Keet just moist in winter. In frost prone areas, apply a generous layer of mulch during the colder weather to help protect the roots.
