A virtually evergreen, clump-forming perennial that produces balls of purplish blue flowers in early summer. As the flowers fade so do the old leaves, but new foliage develops in the autumn. Great if naturalised in grass though it does need some winter protection.
- Garden care: Plant bulbs 8cm (3in) deep in autumn in naturalistic drifts.
