Hyacinthus 'Dark Dimension'

hyacinth

size: 5 bulbs   available to order from summer 2012

CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant add to wish list

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: any well-drained, moderately fertile soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: March
  • Flower colour: deep purple (nearly black)
  • Other features: all parts of the plant may cause a mild stomach upset if ingested; contact with the bulbs may cause skin irritation
  • Hardiness: fully hardy
  • Bulb size: 16/17

The outer edge of each petal is slightly paler than the rest, but overall the colour is as intense and rich as you can get. It makes a big impact to a spring bedding scheme or seasonal planter, and it looks great when underplanted with low-growing spring flowers like Anemone blanda (especially the blue ones), or teamed teamed up with deep plum coloured tulips.

  • Garden care: Using gloves plant bulbs 10-15cm (4-6in) deep and 15cm (6in) apart in early or mid-autumn.

  • Eventual Height: 0.3m
  • Eventual Spread: 0.2m
